I've just never listened to the HK stuff before (well, since the 70's, anyway) Thanks.

I don't know about the HK745 specifically, but I had an HK AVR-7300 and the version of Logic 7 in that receiver was not good at all.  There was too much overempahsis of the bass and it would get confused with certain program material and throw the whole sound stage either to the left or right.

The AVR-7300 lasted for about a month before I realized that I was going to have to go for the RV-8.  Was the RV-8 worth 6 times the price of the AVR-7300?  Absolutely.

I would recommend that you audition the Logic 7 processing offered with the HK745 before buying.  Perhaps someone else in the forum knows the specifics on that particular model.

I'll put this here as the RV-5 seems to be the latest product we know about coming from Lexicon.  Quote by a well known Lexicon dealer over on AVS in the last few days:

"Now, that is all changing (IMHO) as Lex has outsourced its production AND service. Guess what, I hear they are launching cheaper prepro's. So it seems something had to give if they wanted to create lower priced products. "

So I don't know quite what that means...

Hopefully all it means is that they're having stuff built somewhere where it costs less money to do so.  If they use the same parts, the production line is the same, and quality control is in order it should just translate to it costing less for them to make the same thing.  OTOH, if they screw up somewhere in the process, it will mean an inferior product and a lot of us will end up going elsewhere for the next generation of product.

There has been a few of discussions on here and elsewhere about the RV-8 having not been supported as well as they'd hoped by Lexicon. I have the opportunity to get a sealed B-stock with full warranty from an authorized Lexicon dealer for about 4000. Assuming somewhere down the road, I'm willing to add a an outboard unit to handle HDMI 1.3, would you say the RV-8 is still the way to go?

I checked out the ad in the Home Theater magazine today and the RV-5 keeps the same cosmetic design as the MC series processors and RV-8 receiver. There was no picture of the back so I couldn't check out all of the inputs/outputs. Look wise, it will be right at home with the current line of products. In a way I'm a bit disappointed in that I was hoping for a cool design change. We are so familiar with the current look I kinda wanted something else to spice things up, not that I think my MC-12 is ugly, far from it, just a change after, how long has the MC-12 been out, 6 or 7 years, would have been nice.

Did anyone spot the typo in the RV-5 advert in the most recent HT mag??

Never noticed one, but I can look again tomorrow. I'm assuming it's probably something an avid Lex enthusiast should pick up on?
